From wax to wonder - HARD WAX edition jewelry class

"HARD WAX" is a type of wax carved and sculpted using techniques similar to woodworking, with tools like files, cutters, and burs. Unlike soft wax, it requires a slower and more precise approach, allowing for defined shapes, clean lines, intricate details, and refined textures. In this 4-hours workshop, you'll use manual saws, files, rasps, drills, and even dental tools to model and add intricate textures to your design. At the end, you'll select the metal for your piece to be cast. Price: from €100 per person + casting and metal fees.

Course details

Lost-wax casting is one of the most versatile and used techniques to create jewelry since ancient times. An object is created with a material that is easy and quick to work with and then replicated in metal through a mold and casting: the wax melts, therefore is lost, and molten metal is poured in its place. “Hard wax” is a type of wax that is worked in a similar way to wood with sculpture and carving techniques using files, cutters and burs. It is not as fast and intuitive as soft wax but it allows you to obtain more defined and geometric shapes, precise lines and details and very refined textures. In this short workshop, each participant will have some examples to get inspiration from but, to make sure you'll obtain a beautiful and well-made piece in the estimated time, we will have to set limits and guide you in choosing the shapes to create. You will use tools such as a manual saws, files, rasps, a drill and cutters for modeling and dentist tools to create hot textures. At the end of the workshop, each person will choose the metal in which the object created will be cast. The finished jewels will be ready for collection after approximately 7/10 days (it is also possible to organize shipments with a price to be calculated and paid separately).

Price: the cost of the workshop is €195 + €55 for each object cast in silver or + €30 for each object cast in brass or bronze.
